Narrative medicine is a practice, described by Dr. Rita Charon in 2001, in which your story, the one I listen to and for which I create a narrative, not only establishes a healing bond of humanity, held in the utmost confidence, but gives rise also to a diagnosis and to a treatment. Narrative medicine takes time. For that reason my initial evaluations are scheduled for 2 hours. You tell your story, I write it down and offer it back so you can in turn reflect and refine it, and once that shared story is told, I have found, healing begins.
I am a board-certified psychiatrist, licensed in Illinois, treating both adults and older adolescents, and open to a multitude of alternative and complementary therapies, not least of which are meditation, regular exercise, and the value of a grounded social life. My physical office is in Hyde Park, and was graduated from both the medical school and the psychiatry residency at the University of Chicago Medicine.
A screening evaluation is usually performed over the phone.
I have special clinical expertise in the intersection of medical and psychiatric problems, and malfunctions of memory. I am licensed to prescribe buprenorphine and clozapine.
I use an electronic medical record, nTreatment, and post a blog.
Through Headway I am authorized to take patients insured by Aetna, Blue Cross and Blue Shield Illinois, Cigna, Oscar Health, Oxford, and United Healthcare, and who are a good fit for my practice. I can also see patients who are willing to pay for the entirety of the visit with a credit card; those charges are levied on a sliding scale. Unfortunately, I am not contracted with Medicare, even the commercial forms of Medicare.
I can see you in my office or via tele-psychiatry. My focus is psychotherapy with medication management in line with FDA recommendations.
